Pick up from DSM city center and proceed to south of Dar es Salaam, along the Tanzania / Zambia Highway with picnic lunch. Afternoon game drive of Mikumi National Park. Dinner and overnight at Foxes Safari Camp (L,D)
With 3,230 square kilometers coverage Mikumi National Park is well-known park in Tanzania. The park is well-known for its population of elephants, giraffe, buffaloes, zebras, elands, greater Kudu, wildebeest, roan and sable antelope. Predators include tree-climbing lions (which are in large number), leopards, wild hunting dogs and black-backed jackal. More than 300 species of birds have been recorded here including Eurasian migrants such as red billed oxpecker, marabou stork and lilac breasted roller.
After an early breakfast depart for Selous game reserve with picnic lunch Dinner and overnight at Zarafa Tented Camp (B,L,D)
You will have 2 full days in the Nyerere NP. Exploration of the park by 4-wheel drive vehicle on the 3rd day. After early breakfast, the 4th day will start with early morning walking safari followed by hot lunch. Late afternoon boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River.
Nyerere NP is is famous for large groups of elephants. Other species commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras and greater kudus. It was originally set aside as a hunting area where animals are abundant but more shy then the Northern Parks.
Walking safari will give you a particularly intimate feel for the African wilds. It starts in the morning with a guidance of an armed ranger, takes 2 hours before you meet the driver at the reserve gate. Walking safaris offer a good chance of seeing giraffe, zebra, elephant, and good birding, while for excursions by 4×4 vehicle will permit you to have good photographic opportunities and the chance to explore different sections of vast reserve. You will discover the Rufiji River by boat, encounter hippos and crocodiles in good numbers. Some 350 bird species have been recorded in the Nyerere NP. These are typical of miombo woodlands, and the bird life supported by Rufiji swamplands is of particular interest. All meals and accommodation at Zarafa Tented Camp (B,L,D) for days 3 & 4
After breakfast return to Dar es Salaam with picnic lunch. (B,L). Drop-off at your hotel, or drive direct to the Airport for your onward flight.
