5 Days Safari Tarangire, 2 Nights Serengeti And Ngorongoro Crater

Let our safari itineraries guide you to Tanzania’s most iconic and hidden treasures.

  • Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport to Arusha

Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a friendly representative will warmly welcome you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha. Once at your accommodation, you’ll receive a detailed briefing about your exciting safari ahead. Take the evening to relax, enjoy the serene surroundings, and prepare for the unforgettable adventure that awaits you.

  • Day 2: Arusha – Tarangire National Park – Karatu

After breakfast, begin your journey to Tarangire National Park, about two hours from Arusha. Along the way, you’ll see Tanzania’s vibrant scenery, including Maasai herdsmen tending their livestock. Your driver-guide will keep you engaged with fascinating details about the region’s culture, wildlife, and landscapes.

At Tarangire, enjoy a thrilling game drive through its golden savannah and along the Tarangire River. Known as the ‘Elephant Playground’, the park is home to the largest population of elephants in Tanzania.

You may also spot lions, zebras, giraffes, and gazelles, along with unique species like kudu and oryx. The park’s famous baobab trees and rolling woodlands create a stunning backdrop for your adventure.

Take a break for a picnic lunch and continue your exploration before heading to the cooler Ngorongoro Highlands in the evening, where your accommodation awaits.

  • Day 3: Karatu to Serengeti National Park via Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After a hearty breakfast, depart for the Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Tanzania’s oldest and most iconic national park. The 166 km journey takes approximately 3.5 hours, offering glimpses of Tanzania’s diverse landscapes as you travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

By late morning, arrive in the Serengeti and begin an exciting game drive. Known for its vast plains and abundant wildlife, the park offers unparalleled opportunities to see animals in their natural habitat. Your knowledgeable driver-guide will introduce you to the park’s rich ecosystem, pointing out lions, leopards, elephants, zebras, and antelopes. You may even spot cheetahs sprinting across the plains or herds of wildebeest grazing in the distance.

Capture stunning photos of the breathtaking scenery, but don’t forget to pause and soak in the beauty of the moment. After your game drive, head to your accommodation for a relaxing evening and a delicious dinner.

  • Day 4: Explore the Serengeti National Park

Start your day surrounded by the beauty of Serengeti National Park. After breakfast, head out for a full-day game drive. The morning begins along the Seronera River, a key water source for the park’s wildlife. Here, you might see elephants bathing, lions resting, or zebras grazing.

Your expert guide will share fascinating details about the park’s ecosystem and its famous kopjes, ancient rocky formations that provide shelter for predators and other creatures.

Lunch will be a memorable experience, enjoyed right in the heart of the bush. Afterwards, continue exploring the Serengeti, where the landscape changes with the light, and every turn could reveal a new sighting.

From the towering giraffes to the graceful cheetahs, the Serengeti’s wildlife never disappoints. Don’t miss the chance to spot the Kori Bustard, the heaviest bird capable of flight.

For those who booked a hot air balloon safari, your day begins early with a serene aerial view of the Serengeti, followed by a bush breakfast and champagne. Afterwards, you’ll rejoin the group for the rest of the day’s adventure.

As the sun sets, return to your lodge for a delicious dinner and a peaceful night’s rest.

  • Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Start your day with breakfast and a final morning game drive in the Serengeti National Park, exploring the Seronera area, a wildlife-rich region with a year-round water supply from the Seronera River. This area is home to majestic lions, large herds of elephants, and hippos. Your guide will share interesting insights about the animals and their behaviours.

For an added experience, visit the Serengeti Visitor Centre, where you can learn about the park’s ecosystem and its conservation history. The work of Bernhard Grzimek and the Frankfurt Zoological Society is highlighted here. Even around the centre, you might spot hyrax, mongoose, or colourful birds.

After lunch, drive toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, crossing Serengeti’s vast plains. Along the way, you’ll pass the Simba Kopjes, famous rocky outcrops, and stop at Naabi Hill Gate to enjoy incredible views or spot a vibrant agama lizard.

Reach Ngorongoro Lion’s Paw Camp in the evening, where a delicious dinner awaits.

  • Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

Your day begins with an early breakfast before a 6:00 AM departure to the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the world’s most breathtaking natural wonders. Descend into this massive volcanic caldera to explore its diverse habitats and remarkable wildlife.

As you drive through the Lerai Forest, watch for elephants wandering among the dense greenery. Nearby, the swampland, often called the “elephant graveyard,” attracts older tuskers, drawn by the soft grasses.

The crater is alive with wildlife, including around 120 lions, thousands of gnu, zebras, hyenas, and the rare black rhino. Buffalo, jackals, gazelles, and elands roam the plains, while flamingos and other vibrant bird species gather at Lake Magadi.

After an exciting morning game drive, enjoy a picnic lunch in the crater before starting your journey back to Arusha. The drive, approximately 3.5 hours, offers time to reflect on your incredible safari adventure. Dinner is not included this evening.

Departure Note: The safari ends in Arusha at 5:00 PM. If you have an early morning flight, book an extra night’s stay in Arusha.
